Where magic surrounds you and traditional culture remains
We invite you to experience a different type of tourism, immersed in the traditions of this singular island that is Chiloé. With its own unique culture, expressed most typically in its wooden churches, this mythical archipelago is one of Chile's most fascinating destinations, retaining a special flavor of witchcraft and magical enchantment that expresses a way of life little changed since the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors.

DAY 1 CASTRO - DALCAHUE CHANNEL (Altue Sea Kayaking Center)
Noon-time reception in Castro. Visit to the handicrafts market in the port, followed by lunch in one of the typical restaurants just across the street. Afterwards, brief city tour before heading out to the Altue Sea Kayaking Center, located on the shores of the Dalcahue Channel across from Quinchao Island. For the rest of the afternoon, we recommend you participate in a brief introduction to the fascinating sport of sea kayaking in the protected waters of the Dalcahue Channel, which is not only fun in itself, but is the best way to see the area's abundant bird and sea life. There are the black-necked swans, three varieties of gulls, terns, grebes, oyster catchers, an occasional penguin, and sometimes even flamingoes, as well as Pacific dolphins and sea lions. Supper and lodging for the night at the Center.
DAY 2 ALTUE SEA KAYAK CENTER - DALCAHUE - MECHUQUE ISLAND
Early breakfast to give time for a brief tour of the area around the Center, where Chiloé's traditional way of life still holds sway. Transfer to port of Dalcahue, with visit to the town's wonderful wooden church and tiny museum. After lunch in a typical local restaurant, we board the "water bus" boat for two-and-one-half hour trip to Mechuque Island. After checking into a family-run guest house in Mechuque, we take a walking tour around the village to see the stilt houses built out over the water, the colorful graveyard, and the museum. Then we climb the hill to the lookout for a splendid view of Mechuque, other nearby islands, and the distant range of the Andes. Supper and lodging for the night.
