Trip to the Glaciers of "Campo de Hielo Sur"
The "Campos de Hielo Sur" is the last internal frontier
at the southern end of South America. It is a large territory stretching
fromlatitude 48°15' and 51°40' South.
This region covers a total area of approximately 20.000 km2. (7.722
sq. miles) including the icecap which encompasses 14.000 km2 ( 5.405
sq. miles) and a surrounding area of glaciers, mountain ranges,
fjords, and many lakes, rivers, valleys and land covered with vegetation
ranging from beautiful lichens (first vegetation after glacier withdrawal)
to austral forests of thousand year old cypress...
