ALTUE ACTIVE TRAVEL

Altue means "beloved land" in the Mapuche Indian language

Participation, self-discovery, experiencing the cultural reality of a country, actively exploring its natural highlights these are new concepts for the needs of modern tourism.
Since 1980, ALTUE ACTIVE TRAVEL has been Chile's pioneer in the presentation of nontraditional programs designed for tourists whose instincts tell them to avoid impersonal mass-market products at all costs. Our traditional specialties have been the emotion-filled adventure of running classic whitewater rapids on the wild Bio-Bio River, and serene voyages by sea kayak through primeval scenery in the sparkling Andean fjords of northern Patagonia. Now, with the knowledge of our country's diversity and with the confidence inspired by our 31 years of experience, we are offering the widest range of active adventure tourism Chile has to offer, by emphasizing professional services combined with those special touches of our national culture that have always been our hallmark. We are proud to be our country's foremost professional outfitters.

Cristina Sanchez, Chilean with studies in tourism enterprises at the University of Valdivia, Chile. She began her professional practice in the Planning Department of SERNATUR (the Chilean National Tourism Service). After a year traveling through Europe, she went to work in Santiago for "Turismo Cocha", one Chile's most important travel agencies. During her seven years there, she worked first in the National Department developing programs for the Chilean market. A few years later she took over the American Express operations, with responsibility for attending American clients visiting Chile. Finally, in the Incoming Department, she led different groups -mainly from Europe and United States- in "fam trips" (familiarization trips) organized for wholesalers interested in promoting Chile, which gave her a deep knowledge of the country. Then, for the next four years, she moved to "Andina del Sud", another important wholesaler specialized in Latin American markets. Her job with this company was to investigate new products and create new concepts for offering Chile, with a focus on "soft" adventure trips. She also dedicated a great deal of energy to the international marketing of this company, permitting it to participate in international fairs like the Travel Mart Latin American, Fitur, and ITB, among the most important. With these 11 years of experience behind her, in 1994 she decided to look for a small company, more specialized in outdoors trips. Altue was the company, and with Francisco -an old friend- they found a new way to combine their capacities and professional experiences.
