High
altitude - Moderate climbing following the normal route or northern
face. Strenous and medium skills
At 6.959m Aconcagua is the highest mountain in the western Hemisphere
and the highest outside Asia. Aconcagua lies entirely within Argentina,
just across the border from Chile. The ascent of the Aconcagua is
more than a dream for mountain climbers from the entire world. Through
us you can be one of the privileged ones. It rises some 4000 feet
above its neighboring peaks and is easily visible from the pacific
on a clear day.
Our expedition will attempt the normal route, which is technically
quite easy, but not nonetheless a formidable ascension considering
the altitude, the cold weather and the possibility of sudden and furious
storms. This mountain has its own weather, so caution and wise mountaineering
judgement are required for a successful ascent. |

DEGREE
OF DIFFICULTY AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONING: |
This is
a high-altitude ascent; however, it does not require technical experience.
In order to be successful, a very good physical preparation and basic
experience in mountain climbing is essential. Mountain experience
must include practice in tent pitching, use of portable stoves, orientation,
and first aid. Trekking and climbing at high altitude is extenuating.
A good program of physical fitness and of ascents previous to the
expedition is essential in order to get success. To give our travelers
the best possibilities to reach the summit, we also recommend doing
a previous trip at altitude if possible. We can offer several alternatives
of short training ascents around Santiago which have always provided
us with excellent results: Leonera (5.050 m); El Plomo (5.430m) and
others, ask for (normally people for Aconcagua do El Plomo before).
The guides are experts in the Aconcagua, with several previous ascents
through different routes. |
