High altitude - moderate climbing

In the heart of the Atacama Desert, between sand, emerald colored lakes, "salares" and impressive volcanoes, you can live this adventure and discover the wild nature of this unknown region. DAY 01 COPIAPO-VALLE CHICO
Reception at Copiapo's airport or bus station and transfer to Valle Chico (3.000m). Camp. (B/L/D)
DAY 02 VALLE CHICO-LAGUNA SANTA ROSA
Hikes around Valle Chico. Short drive towards Laguna Santa Rosa (3.800m). Camp. (B/L/D)
DAY 03 LAGUNA SANTA ROSA
Acclimatization day around Laguna Santa Rosa. High altitude trekking. Camp. (CB,L,D)
DAY 04 LAGUNA SANTA ROSA - LAGUNA VERDE
Morning transfer to Laguna Verde and camp close to a thermal baths. (B/L/D)
DAY 05 LAGUNA VERDE
Hiking to Mulas Muertas and rest of the afternoon relax at the thermal baths. Camp (4400m.). (B/L/D)
DAY 06 LAGUNA VERDE-UNIVERSIDAD DE ATACAMA REFUGE
Transfer towards Universidad de Atacama refuge (5.250m) Camp. (B/L/D)
DAY 07 UNIVERSIDAD DE ATACAMA REFUGE
Hiking to Tejos refuge (5.750m) and back to base camp. Camp. (B/L/D)
DAY 08 UNIVERSIDAD DE ATACAMA REFUGE-TEJOS REFUGE
Today we will ascent to camp 2 at Tejos refuge (5.750m). Camp. (B/L/D)
DAY 09 TEJOS REFUGE-SUMMIT-TEJOS REFUGE
Ascent of Ojos del Salado (6.893m) and back to Tejos refuge. Camp. (B/L/D)
DAY 10 TEJOS REFUGE-LAGUNA VERDE
Back to camp 1 and transfer to Laguna Verde. This day is reserved as a second summit day in case of thwarted attemp on day 9. Campsite. (B/L/D)
DAY 11 LAGUNA VERDE-COPIAPO
Long drive back to Copiapó. Arrival to the hotel and overnight. Meals on your own. (B)
DAY 12 COPIAPO
Breakfast and transfer to the bus terminal or the airport. (B)
 

Note:
Please keep in mind that this program has been designed for climbers who had got a previous acclimation. We always suggest starting with El Plomo Mount as first step to get a better chance in the Ojos del Salado Expedition.

DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONING:
This program does not present any technical difficulty. The altitude, the constant wind and possible poor physical condition of the traveler are the main difficulties of theses expeditions. We recommend a good physical condition, good personal equipment and a solid acclimatization (which we provide) for the best chance of success. Our programs include a minimum acclimatization period that we deem necessary.
