Sailing
along the fjords and austral channels of the Patagonia
Embark upon this sailing adventure through fjords, coves and bays
between Puerto Montt and Puerto Natales (or vice versa) on board the
M/V "Magallanes" or "M/V Puerto Eden" during the
year, the best alternative to begin or start once again your trip
to Patagonia and Torres del Paine. In this cruise through the numerous
archipelagos of the Aisén region and Magallanes, you can become
immersed in the unequalled beauty of the Patagonian channels and its
countless islands, many of which are practically unexplored. |
|
You are
going to carry out a trip of three days in a Roll on Roll Off ship
that transport cargo, vehicles and passengers. You will navigate through
channels formed as the result of the advanced of glaciers twelve thousand
years ago. During the trip you will see different kind of birds and
sea animals like Dolphins, sea lions of one hair, and occasionally
whales (killer whale) in open sea areas.
This part of the planet continues being wild and that inspired many
writers like Lord Byron, Julio Verne and Francisco Coloane. Ancient
cultures used to live here, like kawesqar between Magallanes Strait
and Pena's Gulf and Yaganes and Onas in Fire Land.
To the south the ship crosses Reloncavi's Sound and Ancud's Gulf.
After that you will see the Corcovado's Gulf with the volcano called
the same name with 2.300 meters high. We will be entering Moraleda
Channel or to the Perez North and South Channel. Main land corresponds
to the tops of the Mountain range of the coast that is under water
given the name to the Guaitecas Islands. Then you will pass trough
the fisherman towns of Puerto Aguirre and Caleta Andrade, arriving
to Puerto Chacabuco through the Aysen Fiord.
After that you will reach the open sea area, what cause more movement
of the ship, depending on weather conditions. If you feel sea sickness
recommend you to take pill few hours before.
This ship goes around the peninsula of Taitao, part of National Park
Laguna San Rafael. After, you will cross the Pena's Gulf in 10 or
16 hours of navigation, depending on weather conditions and the current.
This route was crossed by the Indian people (Prehispanic) and by Juan
Williams in 1843 in the Ancud schooner and founded Bulnes Fort taking
possession of the Magallanes Strait. You will appreciate the Bernardo
O'Higgins National Park, with 3.5 millions of hectares, where the
Pío XI Glacier is located.
The route continues through Messier channel, where the color of
water changes, because of the rivers that come from the south ice
field. You will cross the "Angostura Inglesa" or English
Narrow and one our later we arrive to Puerto Edén, a little
village with about 200 people, where the last kawesqar lives. The
route goes through Kirke or Santa María channel with its
respective pass Kirke and White.
Finally you will arrive to Patagonia crossing Almirante Montt Gulf
and Ultima Esperanza's Sound, arriving to Puerto Natales from where
you can visit the National Park Torres del Paine.
The northern trip is the same bur in the opposite way and you arrive
to Puerto Montt where you can discover the beauty of the X region.
